After decades-long quest, Steve Libert to begin unearthing historic shipwreck.
"SO THIS is how this thing ties into the presidential election," said Oak Hill resident Steve Libert. He was talking about his long quest for a 17th century vessel called the Griffon, a sprawling tale that began in his junior high school years and ended up with him having a piece of an underwater shipwreck "arrested" by U.S. marshals last month. THERE ARE families. And, then there are historical families. Ones that date to the founding of this nation.
Last Saturday at Martin Luther King Jr. Park, adjacent to the Gum Springs Community Center, one such historical family held its 30th reunion within the shadow of where it all began— George Washington's home at Mount Vernon Estate.
