Daughters of the American Revolution unveil a historical marker at the Lorton Workhouse.
ON NOV. 15, 1917, Alice Paul and dozens of other suffragists withstood a night of abuse at the Occoquan Workhouse in Lorton in what ultimately proved to be a turning point in the women’s voting rights movement.
Ninety-two years to the day later, the Fairfax County Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) gathered on the same grounds to honor those sacrifices and to honor the accomplishments that were spawned from that terrible night with a dedication of a historical marker. Three Arrested in Burglary Spree
Thieves went after gold jewelry in South Asian households.
ON TUESDAY, NOV. 10, police arrested three people suspected of a string of 26 burglaries across Fairfax County since late January. Most of the victims have been of South Asian descent, a population that appears to have been targeted because its members traditionally own relatively large collections of high-karat gold jewelry, often passed down through the generations. More than half of the burglaries in the county took place in the Fair Oaks police district. Read more...
