Mark your calendars for November 2012, when City Council and School Board will be on the ballot.

A FOUR-TO-THREE deadlock on the City Council over the issue of staggered terms has killed the potential for a charter amendment to reshape the city’s election — at least for this year. That means the action of the lame-duck City Council earlier this year to abandon the longtime tradition of springtime election in favor of November balloting will land the municipal election in the middle of a presidential campaign. Council members could take another stab at a charter amendment next year, although two or more members would need to retreat from their entrenched positions for that to work. Read more...

Fairfax Count Health Department offers mass vaccination clinic for the H1N1 virus.

BURKE RESIDENT Glenda Scheiner was one of the lucky ones at the Fairfax County H1N1 mass vaccination clinic Saturday, Nov. 7. Hundreds of people, having heard stories the last couple weeks about flu shot clinics quickly reaching capacity, lined up as early as 6:30 a.m. for the 9 a.m. opening.

Veterans honored at Fairfax ceremony.

IT WAS ACTUALLY  a few days before Veterans Day, but American Legion Post 177 and VFW Post 8469 celebrated the day of remembrance on Saturday, Nov. 7 in Fairfax.
